ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLES
Chrysler has a strong collaborating relationship with NextEnergy, Inc. and Biodiesel Industries, Inc., in developing advanced renewable fuels for the future. The partners focus on research targeting biodiesel fuel development and technical innovation, as well as the development and refinement of industry standards for the rapidly growing biodiesel industry.
Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab (6.7-litre Cummins® Turbo Diesel I-6) are delivered factory fuelled with B5, or 5 percent biodiesel.
CLEAN DIESEL VEHICLES
Diesel engines have been around for more than 100 years, but today’s clean diesels utilize the newest technology which significantly reduces emissions and dramatically improves driveability. Modern, clean diesel engines like the 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I-6 have many significant advantages over the diesel engines of the past, including:
- Reduced particulate matter
- A reduction in oxides of nitrogen (NOx)
- Improvement in fuel efficiency and decreased carbon dioxide (CO2) or greenhouse gas emissions over similar size gasoline engines
Chrysler’s most recent achievements in clean diesel technology:
- The 2011 Ram 2500/3500 pickup trucks with the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 met 2010 Canadian emissions standard in 2007 (3 years ahead of the competition)
- Ram 2500/3500 are the only heavy-duty diesel pickups in the market that do not require a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) system to meet the stringent Canadian emissions requirement.
We plan to utilize more clean-burning diesel engines throughout our North American vehicle lineup in the future:
