FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICLES
Chrysler equips its vehicles with cutting-edge technologies designed to improve fuel economy. In fact, the Jeep® Patriot is the most affordable and fuel-efficient 4x4s in its category.(1)(2)
FUEL EFFICIENCY RATINGS
Chrysler Canada’s drive to offer increasing numbers of remarkably fuel-efficient vehicles is demonstrated by the fact that eight 2010 Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge model/drivetrain combinations achieved EnerGuide Highway fuel consumption ratings(2) of 7.1L/100 km (40 mpg) or better, with five of these having City ratings of more than 9.5L/100 km (30 mpg). For full call-out of the applicable EnerGuide ratings, refer to the individual sections in this book for Dodge Avenger, Dodge Caliber, Chrysler Sebring Sedan, Chrysler Sebring Convertible, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot.
Excellent fuel efficiency was a primary objective for the 2010 Dodge Journey. With a 2.4L engine and four-speed VLP automatic transmission, Journey can boast EnerGuide ratings(2) of 7.9L/100 km (36 mpg) Highway, and 11.0L/100 km (26 mpg) City.
WORLD ENGINE
The World Engine is the answer to our customers’ demand for an affordably priced, refined, fuel efficient, durable engine. It combines Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology and intake manifold flow control valves with dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and high compression to produce more power, better fuel economy and smooth, quiet operation. Other significant features include acoustic cylinder head covers on all three displacements, plus dual, counter-rotating balance shafts and an acoustic oil pan on the 2.4L version. World Engines are available on the following vehicles:
- Chrysler Sebring
- Dodge Avenger
- Dodge Caliber
- Dodge Journey
- Jeep® Compass
- Jeep Patriot
CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT2)
CVT2 works by eliminating upshifts which allows the transmission to engage the torque converter
clutch almost immediately when accelerating and to keep it engaged throughout speed changes.
This results in eliminated torque converter slippage, which is common in a stepped transmission.
CVT2 also provides more effi cient operation, especially during city driving. When operating a vehicle with CVT2, drivers will notice an improvement in vehicle performance compared to a traditional automatic transmission. Optimized gear ratios — especially in the 50-100 km/h range — improve passing manoeuvres and contribute to a responsive feel. CVT2 is available on the following vehicles:
- Dodge Caliber
- Jeep Compass
- Jeep Patriot
5.7L HEMI® V8 ENGINE
The 5.7L HEMI V8 features Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Multi-Displacement System (MDS). The active intake manifold on trucks with Short Runner Valve (SRV)(4) improves both peak power and torque; it also improves low-end torque and further extends MDS operation for improved fuel economy. The 5.7L HEMI V8 has up to 390 hp @ 5600 rpm.(5) It provides smooth, quiet operation, and excellent durability. The Multi-Displacement System (MDS), working together with the Variable Valve Timing (VVT), gives the engine low-speed torque while maximizing fuel efficiency and reducing engine noise. It also enables the engine to perform powerfully during acceleration and yet more economically when the vehicle is cruising by deactivating four of the eight cylinders. When operating in four-cylinder mode, fuel economy is improved. The 5.7L HEMI V8 engine is available on the following 2011 models:
- Chrysler 300C — 360 hp/389 lb.-ft. torque
- Dodge Charger — 368 hp/395 lb.-ft. torque
- Dodge Ram 1500 — 390 hp/407 lb.-ft. torque
- Jeep Grand Cherokee — 357 hp/389 lb.-ft. torque
6.7L CUMMINS® TURBO DIESEL I-6
Ram introduced the first Cummins-powered Ram pickup in the 1989 model year, bringing together two of the most respected names in the truck industry. Not only is the latest version the strongest, cleanest and quietest Cummins Turbo Diesel ever in a Ram, it has the capability of running on B5 and B20 biodiesel fuel. This overhead valve (OHV) in-line six cylinder engine includes features like 24 valves (four per cylinder), electronic high-pressure common rail fuel injection system, cast iron block and head construction and a side mounted Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) increasing performance and improving fuel efficiency over the previous model. This engine includes a factory installed exhaust brake integrated into the VGT and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), contributing to vehicle driving control, reduced brake fade, longer brake life and faster cab warm-up. This Cummins produces up to 650 lb.-ft. of torque at a low 1500 rpm on Ram 2500/3500 pickups with the 6-speed automatic transmission and 610 lb.-ft. of torque at 1600 rpm for all Ram Chassis Cab models. The 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 engine is available on the following 2011 models:
- Ram 2500/3500 pickup
- Ram 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab
